We didn't get too many good pictures, blah. But here we go.
Stage 1: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Scott:

(sword & pose based on the cover of book 7)

Gideon:

Not an actual sword cane...
Comfortable, not that hard to make (mostly just buying things), a couple of people recognized us. This fandom is tangential and on the wane, though; we saw no other SP cosplayers on Friday, though we did see 3 or 4 Ramonas on Saturday.
Stage 2: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
All reference pics for MLP are from this wiki.
Spike:

The hat's only in one episode.

Dragons eat gemstones. Nom.

I'm not sure Jay intended to do the sadface or whether it was just to show the hood.

From the photoshoot: secondary/background characters. (From left: Spike, Big Macintosh, Shining Armor, Trixie, Derpy, Vinyl Scratch, Bon Bon - I had to look that one up (oops) - another Spike, and another Derpy.)
Rarity:

Totally forgot to take pictures of this one. A few people stopped us for photos that day, though, and we stopped in at Deathcom's booth (though we didn't buy any prints). There should be a couple from the photoshoot, too.

The! Worst! Possible! Thing!!

From the photoshoot: main characters. (From left: Twilight Sparkle, Future Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, two Applejacks, two Rainbow Dashes, and three Fluttershys, including psycho Fluttershy from an infamous Flash parody. Missing in this shot was Pinkie Pie; one showed up a little later in the shoot.)
Surprisingly, this costume was comfortable, too. The wig gave me grief from point A to point Z, but on the day of the con, I just gave up and flipped it all over one shoulder. It stayed put, at least, for the most part. It rubbed off some purple onto the shoulder of the dress, which I kind of expected. But I can just make sure to flip it to the same side any time I wear the costume... not a huge deal.
Stage 3: MLP:FiM Redux
Doctor Whooves:

Vinyl Scratch / DJ Pon-3:

The notes are on the back of the hoodie; I'll have to remember to take a shot of that at Tekko. This was the more fun of the two photos we took, despite the fact that I screwed up throwing the horns. WTF? I blame oncoming sickness.
We didn't do much at this convention, other than shop in Artists' Alley and crowd-watch. We did get out for dinner with some friends of Jay's on Saturday, and had some spectacular ice cream. Totally worth the long detour around a construction zone.

You are totally rocking that Vinyl Scratch outfit
So, on balance, you had fun?
Re: You are totally rocking that Vinyl Scratch outfit
Date: 2012-08-27 02:03 am (UTC)I just went to one photoshoot; the individual ones were just us killing time against blank walls. It was OK, not very well attended (~12-15 people) and had a little bit of creative matching-up, followed by a couple of people hogging the spotlight. (Jay and I and another Spike cosplayer had a cute moment; I'll have to see whether anyone posts those.)
OTOH, this is only the second photoshoot I've attended. I'm not sure how they usually go. It's fun, though.
Anyway, it was still a nice time. I wouldn't go so far as to say "fun", as I fell asleep in daylight hours at least twice - and not because of partying too hard the night before. :) Just walk around, look for neat costumes, buy things in the Alley (and a few in Dealers'), and a couple of panels/events. Super low key.
