;_;

At least I know what I want to do for my next video project. - I say that a lot, though. Realistically, I should wait a couple of months before cracking into anything else.

Major story turning points can irk me sometimes, but I liked this one.

I alarmed the hubs, I think. Which is odd, because we've definitely watched Summer Wars together, and that's a giant tearjerker. Heh.

Actual priority today: sewing commissions.

io9 discovers crossplay ...sigh. It's so cute. *pats io9's head* They also claim that crossplay was invented in 2005, which is... wrong. Otherwise, this is a fun read, and some points cross over fandoms as well.

One thing that I noticed was that they chose to post femme versions that weren't your typical femme versions - "same color, an accessory or two, and a microminiskirt. PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!"
I'm not going to slut-shame or say that it's not OK to beg desperately for attention, because it is OK - I wouldn't want to do it, but I'll stand for your right to do so. Thing is, it's also not the only approach to fandom, but you wouldn't know that by tooling through an anime convention. I wish that the fandom were more creative.

I've gotten interested in crossover/re-designed/etc. cosplay in the last couple of years, after several years of despairing over the fact that there are precious few characters in any of my fandoms who look anything like me. For a while I mostly did generic character classes and background characters. And then I decided to throw in the towel and actually have fun with it. I also rather enjoy the slightly trolly aspect of intentionally NOT Looking Exactly Like The Character. It's a bad habit, but sometimes I like trying to shake people up.

All of that said, I haven't planned a femme-Doctor cosplay, partly because I don't have a clear favorite Doctor and haven't seen all of the classic ones yet. Maybe someday. First I'd like to get around to our Scott Pilgrim set - there's a series so gendered that it makes my brain hurt. I liked it, but I can't help but call attention to that. I look forward to making other people's brains hurt.

I have a vague habit of focusing on one type of project per weeknight, which means that when I'm working on sewing, I'm not posting.

The other factor in today's post is Reverse Workspace Porn. In the crafting world, people like to post/look at pictures of gorgeous, perfectly organized workspaces - aspiration, envy, etc. I love a good pretty/functional organizational scheme as much as the next crafter, but I'm not likely to create one. My new workroom looks like the set of a '70s stag film (fake wood paneling FTL) and it's an unholy mess, but I still love it.

The ponies from the last post were on hold while my paintbrushes emerged from the unpacking chaos. They've since surfaced, so I should have some progress on those next week. In the meantime...

Hi. I make fuzzy things.

I have only seen about three episodes of MLP:FIM so far, but I love making plushies. So when I came across this pattern - via Craftster, probably - I had to try it.

My first idea was a bit daunting (and bizarre), so I decided to warm up with a couple of test runs first.

I am married to a giant Pittsburgh sports fan. That one was an obvious choice, since I had this gold fleece. Then I realized that I had a tan fabric that would work for Doctor Whooves, but after the body was finished, I realized that it had a very dainty face. Sooooo...

It's so fluffy, I can't stand it. I still have to figure out what color to make her eyes (I think it's either green or hazel), and double-check which wrist the vortex manipulator goes on.

Finally, Blue Link and Dark Link, which I'm making on commission. However, I took this photo because I realized that they were accidentally posed like the models in the "Vogue" video.

I find that amusing. I don't know about you.
